Rottweiler

History

Their raison d'être is to act as a herding and drover's dog and cattle drover, and whilst they were bred in Germany, they were originally bred as such a herding and drover's dog and used to drive herds of cattle to marketplaces. In order to maintain their traditional roles of reclaiming cattle and driving the cattle, they needed both mental acuity and poise and strength of mind and body. This essentially places them in an ideal position to perform their traditional duties. Over time they became popular as police and military auxiliaries from their unique protective instincts and their trainability.
