Golden Retriever

History

The Golden Retriever was originally developed in Scotland during the 18th century through the work of Lord Tweedmouth. Lord Tweedmouth aimed to create an ideal retriever dog of hunting classes in order to make a dog that was capable of retrieving both from land as well as from water. The breed was then refined by the mating of existing retrievers with other breeds that took place close to the turn of the 20th century. After both the land and water abilities of the dog were improved a great deal by cross-bred bloodlines, the Golden Retrievers were then eventually seen as being intelligent, and also for their adaptability, made it a great breed of choice worldwide.
