Overview

The Ragdoll is a large, affectionate cat known for their striking blue eyes and soft, semi-long coat. The cat is commonly known as a "rag doll" as it recoils when it is picked up due to its soft, fluffy lack of fleas. It is recognized for its gentle and affectionate nature, which makes it into an excellent family pet.

Health

Ragdolls are generally healthy but can be prone to conditions such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and bladder stones. Regular vet check-ups and a balanced diet are crucial for maintaining their well-being.

Ragdoll

History

The Ragged fall breed of cats was developed in the 1960s by Ann Baker, who had two separate matings of the Crittenden Siamese and Ragamuffin cats through the summer of 1966. The kittens from the first mating were kept and eventually resulted in the formation of the Ragdoll breed, which gained official recognition in the 1970s, this breed becoming one of the most popular breeds worldwide.

Facts

  • The Ragdoll is one of the few cat breeds that remains playful and kitten-like well into adulthood.
